Les Mills Pump Review

Les Mills Pump Review

For the start of this Les Mills Pump review, I want to give you an idea of what Les Mills Pump (LMP) is. Les Mills Pump is an at home version of BODYPUMP, which is an extremely popular series of gym classes created by Les Mills International, and it is taught in 80 different countries around the world. Les Mills BODYPUMP originated in New Zealand, and it has spread like wildfire around the globe, and now you can try it at home.  What makes Les Mills Pump different is that it is a barbell-based program that uses higher repetitions to get results.  The results that people are getting with this program are very impressive and that’s the reason we, my wife Ally and I, are doing this program together.

Les Mills Pump review: Is this for me? Is this a “guys” workout?

My first impression: Ok, when I first saw Les Mills Pump, I wasn’t really that interested. To be honest it looked interesting and my wife really wanted to do it, but I thought it would be a good workout for “her”.  Well you see, I just finished P90X and I wanted to start P90X2, we have it, and it’s just in the other room calling my name!  Ally (my sweetheart) and I had been doing two separate workouts, me with P90X and she was doing ChaLean Extreme, and she wanted us to do Les Mills Pump together. It took a little convincing (I still had P90X2 on the brain) but I finally said sure let’s do this together.  My thinking was that P90X took a lot out of me and Les Mills Pump would keep me moving and still give me a break before jumping into P90X2.

Les Mills Pump review: Why did I say “start of my LMP 90 days, again.”

Well because this is the start of our Les Mills Pump workout for the 3rd time!  We’ve only made it to our 2nd or 3rd week and had to stop for one reason or another.  Now remember that I wasn’t taking this workout as seriously as I had P90X, I wasn’t keeping track of the workouts, not writing down weights used, just flying by the seat of my pants. But wait; hold on now, what was this?  Abs?!  Ok, a brief history of me here, my abs have been my weakest body part, they take forever to show up.  I have had a bigger waist line (ok it’s a belly) than I’ve wanted for a long time. Even after P90X, lots of muscles started to show up, but not my abs.  So now after a couple weeks of weak attempts of Les Mills Pump, I’m starting to see my abs! Hold on now, maybe there is something to this.  It is a bit different than P90X, it’s a lot more reps which are challenging (ok, hard) for me. I like heavy weight and low reps, but it’s not about what I like, it’s about getting more result.  Maybe there is something to this “rep effect” that they talk so much about, we’ll see in a few months. So now with this official start of Les Mills Pump, I’m taking it a lot more seriously, I’m ready to start adding weight and push a little harder, not just go through the motions, we’re going to finish this, I want to see what kind of results I’m going to get!

Les Mills Pump review- the equipment

Les Mills Pump Review: Equipment

I’m not sure if I ever mentioned it before or not, but I don’t like my picture taken. I know some people love it and are a natural in front of a camera; I’m not one of those people.  I always look goofy, but I will be posting pictures, they always say more than words, especially as far as results are concerned. Another reason for pictures, accountability, for me to put them here, I want to see some changes! Believe me, you need to take before and after pictures, you may feel a change and see a difference on the scale, but your pictures will tell you the bigger story.  This is going to be a 4 part article, this first one is just the start of Les Mills Pump review, and the next one will be 30 days into the program, my thoughts at that point and my results, with pictures. I won’t put up my before pictures here, I’ll wait until I get some kind of results before I put them up.

So this Les Mills Pump review is the start of my new journey, a new 90 days to get serious again about my health and fitness, and to push myself in new areas (reps) and break some comfort zones. I’m excited about the possibilities and wondering how this is going to turn out.  So please follow me on this journey, better yet, start it with me, let’s do this together.  You can join me on Facebook and join our challenge group, and we’ll keep each other going through these 90 days.  What have you got to lose, besides some extra pounds?

Yours in Health and Fitness,
Bruce
