Book Review: The Joy of Intercession
The Joy of Intercession is a 40-day companion book to The Happy Intercessor. This takes you day-by-day through a more in depth study of some main points from the The Happy Intercessor. Each day begins with a relevant Bible verse and then you have a devotion for the day which is an excerpt from The Happy Intercessor. Next, you will find Reflections, which includes questions to help you press in deep to where you are with your intercession, where you desire to be with it and how to get there. Finally, the day ends with Meditative Action that includes another excerpt from The Happy Intercessor and either questions or key points that will help you reach new levels of intercession. Beni Johnson does a great job with this book and The Happy Intercessor. She reminds us that our true joy comes only from our relationship with God and our Lord, Christ Jesus. Only through our relationship with them can we experience the true power and blessing of intercessory prayer, as well as have joy as we reach toward heaven and stand in the gap for others.
The Joy of Intercession is a great way to spend 40 days diving deeper into what it means to have joy while interceding. You will learn to pray from a place of offense rather than a place of defense. Pray from a place of victory rather than fear of defeat. It does make a difference, because one is praying from faith, while the other from a place of fear. It is our faith that pleases God. (Hebrews 11:6)
I’d recommend this book for anyone that struggles with keeping peace and joy as you intercede for others. This is a great book and wonderful tool to keep on hand as you prayerfully press forward to be all that God has created you to be as an intercessor. I received this as a gift from a dear friend of mine, along with The Happy Intercessor, and it’s a book that has dynamically changed the way I view and experience intercessory prayer and will be a book I will read for years to come.
