Book Review: Audacious 2

Book Review: Audacious by Beth Moore

B&H Publishing Group

Audacious is classic Beth Moore! I love how she tells stories, you really feel like you’re just sitting and having coffee with her. She has a way sharing some very hard truths with you but in such a disarming way. Somehow you know that the message she is bringing, even tough ones, is straight from her heart and rooted in the Word of God.

Audacious is just that. This book challenges us to find new heights and greater depths in our relationship and love for our Lord Jesus. A love like His, she reminds us, is audacious to its core and to follow Him today and love Him like we need, hopefully like we want to, will require us to be audacious too.

Those willing to give up their insatiable self-preoccupation to identify with Jesus and follow Him furiously will find an ever-unfolding life and love that they couldn’t have scripted if they’d tried.

-Beth Moore, Audacious

Audacious is filled with words of wisdom and encouragement. As we can always expect from Beth, don’t get slack, shake off mediocrity and don’t think this is going to be an easy ride. I don’t believe that she’s as interested in making us comfortable and pleasing our ears as she is in moving our hearts, closer to Jesus. That’s one of the things I appreciate most about her and her books or teachings. Her desire to help us fall in love with Jesus all over again is palpable on each page. She leaves you saying, as she once said, “God, I don’t know what that was but I want it!”

To get where you and I are headed, we’re going to have to become shameless about the way Jesus feels towards us. I do mean shameless. You’ll never find a more perfect synonym for audacious. Shame and audacity cannot coexist. They cannot consume the same space. God is not mistaking our shame for humility. People who cover the blood of Jesus with a cloak of shame do not honor the name of Jesus.

-Beth Moore, Audacious

So true! Having had my run-ins with shame more times than I care to count or remember, I get what she’s saying and couldn’t agree more. This was a nice reminder for me to have and to keep for those times when the enemy will bring up my past and try to shame me again. Have you ever been there? Precious sister, know that you’re not alone. If you’ve dealt with the enemy and his shame, I know you know what I mean. Shame has no place in the life and heart of one that has been redeemed by the most audacious love ever known to man, as she boldly reminds us.

She has a way, in most of her books and teachings, of helping us reach deep inside ourselves- you know to those hidden places where you stack things and hope no one, including yourself, will ever find them again. She challenges us to be honest and to dare to be audacious with ourselves and with Jesus. We are challenged to be honest when we know that no one but God is watching and we know that He knows the truths in our hearts and those hidden places even better than we do. She helps us to pull those truths to the surface, place them before God and ask Him to either help us walk in those truths or to help us correct them and walk in His truth.

Audacious was a great message and funny, so funny in fact that I cried a few times laughing so hard. It was awesome! I have a tendency to underline great points, write “amen” and write notes in the margins and this book offered a lot of opportunities to save some wonderful gems. It challenged me to look at my own relationship with Jesus, face some things that were buried and to ask God to help me be far more audacious in loving Him than I’ve ever been.

Hidden in the pages of this book, I believe, is a Savior that is calling, wooing us to fall in love with Him and to chase after Him with a love so audacious that people can’t help but take notice. Beth Moore has, once again, written a book that forced me to dig deep, pray for revelation of things I’ve buried within myself, and to long for more than what I thought I needed, to reach for the want, the desire to know Him like I’ve never known my Savior before.

Would I recommend Audacious? Absolutely, but if you aren’t willing to think beyond the traditional teachings of how we ought to love Christ, you may not get nearly all the benefit out of this book that it has to offer. If you aren’t willing to dare to desire to love Jesus audaciously, well, pick up the book anyway, Beth may just have your mind changed by the time you finishing reading the last page. If you’re longing to find new heights and new depths in your relationship with One that so audaciously loves you then I believe you will find this book of great help in your pursuit of your first love. While this book is written towards women, please know that young or old, man or woman, this book will help you find a fresh love and a longing to know Jesus better than you’ve ever known Him before. And if you’ve never known the audacious love of Jesus or you aren’t sure if you’ve ever loved Him audaciously, this is the book for you.

Enjoy Jesus…He is the adventure. He’s the best part…The very best part.

Excellent review. I said so on Goodreads. I really loved it. I didn’t want a book that was just the same old thing. Beth Moore really reaches into us and has us examining ourselves and our love of Jesus. I received this book in the mail. I still don’t know who sent it to me but I figured the Lord wanted me to read it. I saw it in the book store and wrote down the name. I picked it up at the public library.
